hi I'm Hartley
From Boston to Cannes pt 4

The conclusion to my notes from this part of my trip. I may post more later. Perhaps something interesting about the festival itself. Or poop jokes. The notes:

All the AirBerlin safety instructional videos are given by creepy CG people. One featured a hand-drawn talking fly, too. I know Europeans try some experimental stuff, but in their safety videos, too?

The people seem pretty polite, though I’ve gotten a few weird looks. [Not because I was talking English or anything, either. Perhaps I stood out.]

Another thought: Where do they keep their minorities?

Don’t answer that, it could come of as offensive, which was not intended.

From Boston to Cannes pt 3

Things are different in Germany. None of this German efficiency I’ve heard about—not in customs, at least [basically a huge crowd of people smooshing their way towards 4 small doors for half an hour].

I was disappointed that they didn’t have a proper skymall. It was just regular duty free stuff like watches & perfume Where do Germans get their Ergonomic Titanium Back-Scratcher-iPod Docks? I thought that stuff was made by fancy German Scientits! [that’s how you know it’s good]

Speaking of European scientists, “Hook” from Kingdom (watch it!) is staring me down from an ad for Finnair. Also, they have cigaette ads here. Weird.

[Next post will be the conclusion of these notes]

From Boston to Cannes pt 2

So, it was time for my trip from New York to Nice via Berlin and Dusseldorf. From my notebook, all written once I was in the Dusseldorf airport:

Berlin flight was nice (food, drinks), saw Ides of March, which was good. [Such a difference between this transatlantic flight and my usual domestic ones.] Couldn’t sleep much.

My judgement of time is f-ed. I have to check my watch to realize it’s only 11am here. I can sleep on a bus, in a class… but w/ a blanket and a reclining chair? Forget it.

From Boston to Cannes pt 1

This weekend I headed from Boston to New York then Berlin, Dusseldorf, and finally Nice for the Cannes Film Festival. I’m tired but I jotted down some notes in my handy-dandy notebook earlier. I’m breaking it up into a few posts rather than one super long one.

Taking Fung Wah home after finishing up at BU. Been taking it for four years without breakdowns or horror stories (except that one time we got lost but it was a charter bus). And we get pulled over in CT. Still got to NY early.

Stay tuned for the European trip. It’s totally like that movie where they have that trip to Europe.

I’m going to miss you when we graduate, man… because then I’m not going to have any pictures of myself.

I recently received an e-mail from one of my biochemistry professors; it was addressed to all of the students enrolled in the course, and was titled “Plagiarism Problems.” In this message to the class, the professor asserted that there have been several lab reports that were submitted that…
